The Kids’ Center for Social & Emotional Development, Inc. is a therapeutic childcare center for 2 ½ to 6 year olds who are struggling with specific behavioral issues.

Do you get phone calls to come pick up your child from childcare or preschool because they are not behaving or are physically aggressive to their peers at school?

Does your child have difficulty making friends or interacting happily at childcare?

Here at The Kids' Center Inc. we know how to help your child, and how to  help you help your child to be successful and most of all have fun at school! We have a highly trained staff who will not only know how to address those behaviors in a positive and loving way, but also will help your child to no longer engage in those behaviors, but instead participate, make friends and have fun!

"It's so nice to talk with a staff who really understands why kids have difficulty at school. Our son used to spend more time in time outs or in the office than in the classroom. We are looking forward to hearing him talk about what a great day he had with his friends!" - Parents of a Four-year-old enrolled at TKC

Center Philosophy
  • That behavioral issues are related to multiple causes, and children and families require specific interventions to help them heal at the earliest age possible.
  • That children need understanding, empathy and compassion to heal.
  • That for children to succeed in public school, behavioral issues must be addressed during these early years of development.
  • That for treatment to be effective, we must also provide services to the family, supporting parents and providing psycho-education and parenting skills training specific to the issues their child is dealing with.
  • That treatment plans must be developed individually for each family, to address their particular needs.
Some of the behaviors we address are:
  • Controlling or bossy behaviors with other kids or adults
  • Oppositional - always wants to do something other than what you ask
  • Defiant - will say no to you (other than the regular terrible two's stage)
  • Being physically aggressive (biting, pinching, kicking, hitting). This could be with siblings, parents or friends. Sometimes kids are aggressive to themselves by hitting themselves, biting themselves, excessive nail biting, etc.
  • Constant chattering
  • Temper tantrums past appropriate developmental stage
  • Anger outbursts
  • Withdrawing & Isolating self. Preferring to play alone and not interact with others
  • Child stiffens when you hug them or only hugs when they want to
  • Child doesn't understand how others' feel, lacks cause and effect thinking about his behaviors and so continues to make bad choices
  • Destructive behavior to toys or environment
  • Rough play or aggressive with animals / pets
  • Indiscriminate affection toward strangers (will go to anyone and behave as if they have known them for a long time).
  • Food issues (hiding food, refusing to eat, eating too much)

What makes The Kids’ Center, Inc.  different from other traditional childcare centers?
The focus at The Kids’ Center, Inc. is Social & Emotional development, not academics. The children will participate in multiple types of therapies to develop and build a sense of self, self-esteem and confidence; develop empathy for themselves and others; learn cause and effect thinking; grow to trust adults; develop and maintain healthy, meaningful friendships; learn to follow rules; develop affect regulation (ability to calm self); and learn healthy ways to resolve conflict.

Other ways we differ are:
Our Clinical Director is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in Behavioral Problems and Attachment difficulties. She will be assessing each child prior to enrollment, developing individualized treatment plans, directing all therapeutic activities, conducting parent groups and will be available to families for consultation.
  • Teacher / child ratio of 1:6
  • Exceptional staff, trained in behavioral  difficulties and therapies to address them
  • Therapeutic program 8 hours per day, which is highly structured
  • Love & Logic classes for parents
  • Interactive Play Therapy classes for parents
  • Therapist available for in person, phone consultation and therapy appointments  for issues a family is having at home
